Directiva 2010-2013

What is the Ecuadorian Society of Bioethics?

The Ecuadorian Society of Bioethics – SEB – was founded in Quito  in 2003 as a non-profit organization.  Its creation was motivated in part by its interest in the diversity of  various actors in civil society organizations and a desire to provide a place for dialogue and multiculturalism to address the conflicts that confront humanity as a whole such as globalization, the development of medico-biological research, biotechnology and data processing as well as a concern for human rights abuses, the destruction of our living planet, conflicts that put in danger the survival of all species, the rights and obligations of individuals, sustainable development,  social justice, equality and protection for of all forms of life.

Considerations that affect all countries and the world’s populations are gaining in importance each day as they impact decision-making in scientific, cultural, social, economic, political, and scientific fields.   Ecuador cannot remain on the sidelines as citizens become more aware and demand that their rights be protected.  It was within this context that the Ecuadorian Society of Bioethics (SEB) was established with a national management structure that over the years has included a collection of agreements and partnerships with important national and international organizations.
